New Lab City Data Science Fellow

New Lab supports entrepreneurs defining the future of technology and human experience. Based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, New Lab provides the tools and community that unite and support 500 innovative entrepreneurs, designers, and engineers representing over 100 companies in a variety of fields—including robotics, A.I., urban technology, and energy—and fosters collaboration and advancement across disciplines.

New Lab City is the division of New Lab that creates public-private partnerships to bring together entrepreneurs and cities in meaningful ways; it’s the hub where New Lab members, corporate partners, municipalities and universities collaborate to develop meaningful new products and achieve impact greater than what any single entity is capable of on its own.

New Lab City is seeking a data science fellow to assist with the development of a new initiative. New Lab City has developed a modular sensor system to collect different types of real-time data in urban environments in order to create new ways for entrepreneurs, policymakers and businesses to gain insights and test new strategies for improving local community outcomes. We’re seeking a data scientist to help inform the development of this product and to oversee how best to integrate additional data streams into an online dashboard.

The modular sensor system and online dashboard will be used to inform an open innovation challenge inviting data scientists and other experts to use the data to create new algorithms and tools.

The role is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in being involved in a young, successful startup and learning about the potential for public-private partnerships to deliver community benefit.

The New Lab City fellow will report directly to Shaina Horowitz who leads New Lab City and also work closely with the creative and tech team behind this project; they’ll also have the chance to to interact, network and learn from New Lab’s members which include 90+ advanced technology startups and partners from the City of New York.

Position to start immediately and be available for up to 10 hours of work, preferably on-site at New Lab per week for the next two months with the possibility to extend. Stipend provided.
